Facebook is no longer just virtual...

I came across this blog by Dvir Reznik it shows a case study of the "Real Life Like Button" Please see the blog for the actual story of this devise (or see the embedded video below).

 In short- the system was developed by an Israeli firm e-dologic (Hebrew) and it allows the virtual world of Facebook into the real world.

The devise was used on a summer program called Coca-Cola village which is essentially a 5 day fun filled camp full or activities intended on encouraging real life social interaction. With the "Real Life Like Button"  Teenagers at the camp are a able to post activities that they enjoyed doing directly to their Facebook wall.

It is clear companies are utilizing Facebook more and more, and it is especially useful to tap into younger demographics.

However, have coca-cola gone to far this time? Is Facebook so much a part of our lives that  even when we are away we have post and comment about things?

What's more when is it going to end, is every single tourist attraction going to have one of these boxes?

I actually can see it being very useful at a theme park. With every ride is a box and it can film them or post a prerecorded film of the given ride to the persons Facebook page. This would be a very effective means of promoting the theme park.

What do you think of the idea and do you see it more applications of it in everyday life?

  1. Interesting post, I actually read/saw somewhere about how Diesel also literally brough facebook to life with its "Be Stupid" campaign. Basically Diesel wanted to highlight the ridiculousness of wasting so much time on social networks and decided to get people to waste time in parks instead - resulting in a Facepark event.

    The event had thousands of people turn up to a park in Berlin to create an analog version of Facebook, simulating pretty much everything you can do on Facebook in a physical format with every guest receiving a profile "wall" cut-out on arrival and 'poke' sticks to poke each other with.

    I don't get the link with the Diesel but apparently, society has become so obsessed with social media that their lives revolves around it?

  2. I think these are both really good and interesting ideas!!!! For quite a while Facebook hasn't been 'public' meaning that you just go home and privately update your status or upload photos etc. It is really interesting to see how slowly these virtual places are starting to mesh with the 'physical', I am sure we will start to see a lot more of these events to come!

  3. I know it's an opt-in system, but there's something creepily "Orwellian" about this concept. Everything the attendees are doing is monitored via their wrist devices, and posted online, including auto tagging of photos.

    Is it just me, or is this idea taking things too far?

  4. Wags its interesting that you say that, alot of the comments on youtube tend to be heading in the same direction.

    " We just stole your identity, HUUUH.", "Welcome to Hell" and so forth.

    I don't think its quite big brother stage , also what is the difference between a Facebook application accessing your profile information, they have just as much information..

    What's more Myki swipe cards can record exactly which train you get on, how long you take getting to work, is that not just as "Orwellian"?
